Abstract

The aim of the paper is to show that terms in general, and economic terms in particular, should be studied in collocations. This approach to the study of terms solves certain teaching-learning problems. The study has shown that the collocations of economic terms used in professional and non-professional discourse differ greatly. In professional discourse economic terms are more often than not confined to a limited number of frequently occurrent neutral collocations while in non-professional discourse this number increases and collocations acquire different connotations. Both types of collocations should be recommended for detailed analysis and study if academic success is required.
