Abstract

In this paper three PI controller tuners based on pole placement iterative design are compared. Two of them use plant estimates obtained from direct identification plus Diophantine equation design, while the third one uses closed loop estimates and an incremental pole placement design. The comparative study reinforces the fact that the choice of the minimization criterion is important for performance. In addition, it points out that the design strategy defines the quality of the overall design.
