Abstract

Climate change mitigation discourse often centers around decadal timescales, human consumption, and that privileged object of human consumption, the automobile. Invoking literary theory, this essay insists that it is only by undoing certainty, by embracing unfathomability, and by realizing the irreconcilability of the human and the geologic—by thinking otherwise—that we can truly begin to address climate change.
