Abstract

Low autocorrelation binary sequences (LABS) play important role in communication and radar applications, due to low aperiodic autocorrelation property. The asymptotic merit factor of LABS has been conjectured by Golay to be 12.32. The minimum energy level of LABS has been proven to be y or, respectively for even or odd sequence length N. In this paper, following the theoretical minimum energy level analysis, a new asymptotic merit factor value of 10.23 is estimated. Sequences of length 4 to 60, found by exhaustive search, strongly support this value. Furthermore, best found sequences of higher lengths (61 to 304) also conform to the asymptotic value of 10.23.
