Abstract

This note establishes the existence of steady state solutions lacking the symmetry of the catalyst particle by presenting two simple examples. No claim is made regarding the stability of these asymmetric solutions; indeed, certain of them are easily shown to be unstable. A more complete exploration of asymmetric solutions and investigation of their stability will be given in subsequent papers.
