Abstract
By means of a statistical derivation it is shown that the momentum-balance equation of a polarized fluid contains a force term that is the divergence of an anisotropic tensor (frsol|1/5)PP + ( 1 10 )P 2 U , where P is the polarization. However, for a fluid in equilibrium this force term is compensated by an anisotropic part in the pressure tensor. The same is true for a fluid in an optical field if time-averaged quantities are considered.
