Abstract

A new trend in the machine tool research is to optimize cutting parameters under continuously changing conditions (depth of cut, hardness of material, etc.). Since the ACO systems were rather expensive, most of the research was directed to develop systems that result in a working point at a limit value of restrictions imposed on factors of cutting (ACC systems). In the present paper an experimental system is described which realizes Aeo control laws in a very simple way and makes it possible to develop different software programmable control strategies. The main cutting force measured by a built-in gage is used as feedback information gained from the cutting process. The equipment described here changes the feedrate and the cutting speed in such a way that an optimal cost of cutting be achieved, considering the intensity of the cutting process and the tool wear. The experimental system may be realized as a low-cost CNC option for practical use.
