Abstract

This paper investigates a new wideband omnidirectional two-layer cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (DRA). It is excited in its omnidirectional TM 101 mode by an axial probe. By adjusting the size of the lower layer of the cylindrical DRA, the probe mode can be also excited. Both modes merge together, achieving a wideband antenna. ANSYS HFSS is used to simulate the DRA. It was found that the proposed two-layer DRA has a simulated impedance bandwidth of 61.8 %.
