Abstract

The effect of shielding large parts of 60Co radiation beams has been studied by film dosimetry. Two individualized shielding masks prepared by filling truncated cavities in styrofoam slabs with lead shot have been prepared for this study using the same technique and degree of precision as for real patients. A sliced Alderson phantom with either films in every slice or dosemeters (thermoluminescent or cavity ion chambers) in a 3*3*2.5 cm matrix have been exposed for the thoracic and neck regions. The results have been displayed by an ensemble of two-dimensional colour coded isodoses on thin sheets of transparent Plexiglas and assembled in space as a replica of the phantom used.
