Abstract
We give a concise and transparent proof of a version of Shalom’s Theorem 0.3 on Property (T) for quotients of irreducible, cocompact lattices in certain product groups, see Appendix A. In doing so, we rigorously develop continuous and reduced continuous cohomology for locally compact groups in the spirit of relative homological algebra.
