Abstract

AbstractWe deal with the system describing moderately large deflections of thin viscoelastic shallow shells. The nonlinear straindisplacement relations due to von Kármán‐Donnell theory is considered. The system consists of an pseudoparabolic partial differential equation for a deflection and an equation with the biharmonic left‐hand side and the pseudoparabolic right‐hand side for the Airy stress function. The existence and uniqueness of a solution is verified by transforming the problem into the sequence of stationary canonical equations of von Kármán elastic type. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
