Abstract

Abstract The crab Thia schubarti sp. nov. is described based on two female specimens from São Thomé, tropical Eastern Atlantic. It is compared to its congener Thia scutellata (Fabricius, 1793) from the temperate Eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Detailed synonymies are given for both species. The symbiotic association of both species with spatangoid sea urchins is discussed. Fossil records in relation with the genus Thia are presented.
