Abstract

A simple algorithm is proposed to derive an upper bound of the Gini index of concentration when data are provided in grouped form. The algorithm is based on the use of the G-matrix, a new mathematical operator, which is also useful when one wishes to decompose the Gini index by factor components or population subgroups.
