Abstract

A classical velocity distribution function used by Bates and Mapleton is derived and compared with the corresponding distribution of quantum mechanics. This classical distribution is related to other classical distributions for the attractive Coulomb field by an integral over the classical angular momentum. Among these other velocity distributions is the one recently given by Gryzinski.
