Abstract

The perspective of the gift stimulates the assumption of a relational posture open to the encounter and animated by a transformative tension, which links volunteering and social work in close connection. Both need skills and training, both face and deal with the contradictions of contemporaneity and with the respect for freedom. The gift qualifies as an ethical principle, underlying the bonds of reciprocity, interwoven in the professional and personal spheres.
