Abstract

A general overview of carbene chemistry mediated by group 8, 9 and 10 transition metals (TM) reveals that while among second row metals, palladium- and rhodium-based complexes provide outstanding cyclopropanation catalysts, those two metals have no applications in olefin metathesis [1] Ruthenium-based complexes, on the other hand are known to mediate both olefin metathesis and/or cyclopropanation reactions [2], as sketched in scheme 1 for a cycloolefin.
