Abstract
The Old Town of Lijiang, including the Dayan old town, Baisha housing cluster and Shuhe housing cluster, is located in the ancient urban area of Lijiang City and is presently within the Naxi Autonomous County of Yulong, Yunnan Province. The Old Town of Lijiang was founded in the late years of the Southern Song Dynasty (late stage of the 13th Century AD) and has a history of more than 800 years. It has three mountains as protective barriers and connects with a river. The eastern and western parts are linked up naturally with the broad, level ground. On one hand, the cold wind from the northwest is kept away; on the other hand, light winds from the southeast are directed in. Thus the general layout of being protected in the northwest but being open to the southeast has been achieved. In addition, standing in the Old Town of Lijiang and looking towards the north, you can enjoy the beautiful snowscape of Yulong Snow Mountain.
