Abstract

The Ana and Doina gas fields are Pliocene-age, shallow, marine sandstone reservoirs some 100 km offshore Romania in the Black Sea. Doina was discovered in 1995 and Ana in 2007. Both have been appraised and are currently being prepared for development. Activity has stepped up since 2007 when Midia Resources, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sterling Resources, started a re-evaluation of the Midia Concession. Seismic has been key in addressing two important issues, gas presence and depth conversion. As a result of the geophysical program instigated, the GIIP (gas initially in place) has been revised upward, thus directly impacting the field development planning. Three successful new wells have subsequently been drilled, one exploration and two appraisal.
