Abstract

The Irish learnt Christianity from the Britons, and the Picts from both. So the spread of a new faith amongst the Celts is a subject with appeal, one perhaps heightened by the intractability of the sources. The present monograph (based upon an Edinburgh thesis) could therefore have told us much. That it does not (as we shall see) is hardly the fault of its ill-advised author.
