Abstract
Three cores representing the entire New Albany Shale in Rockcastle, Pulaski, and Adair Counties, Ky., were assayed, and the average yields computed. If the formation has adequate lateral uniformity, the three cores indicate 49, 22, and 23 million barrels of oil per square mile, respectively. About one-third by weight of the total organic matter is recovered as oil. The amounts of organic matter are fairly comparable with those in equally thick oil-shale sections of the Green River Formation in Colorado yielding twice as much oil. New Albany Shale (with its correlatives) occurs widely in Kentucky and neighboring states.
