Abstract
Talk about the discovery of great oil fields and many in the energy consuming public imagine gushers of black gold spewing above a drilling derrick. To many, the men behind such finds as Glenn Pool, Burbank Field and Prudhoe Bay were the stuff of romantic imagery—leather‐skinned roughnecks working the rig deck to stem a blowout. But somebody had to figure out where to drill the oil or gas well. In most cases, that somebody was an exploration geophysicist.
