Abstract

Although by no means the largest tanker spill in history, the Alaskan spill of in 1989 was worse than many larger ones as it occurred in a remote and unspoilt environment rich in wildlife. In January 1990, the deliberate destruction of oil production facilities during the Gulf conflict added a new dimension to oil pollution. These two oil spills are well documented in the literature and ideally suited to student group project work. This paper provides a firm resource base to get staff and students started.
