Abstract

This article describes fourteen oil-lamp types discovered in the Bet Shean excavations. The lamps date from the second half of the eighth through the fourteenth centuries CE. All the types, except for Types 5 and 6, are local; these two types were imported from Fustat. All the lamps presented in this study (345 complete specimens and fragments) were discovered at Bet Shean in the excavations conducted by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Expedition, headed by Professor Gideon Foerster and Professor Yoram Tsafrir in 1980/1981 and 1986–1997.
