Abstract
As environmental awareness grows, so too do the demands for better fuel economy and lower exhaust emissions of internal combustion engines. A key element within this context is the reduction of the lube oil consumption of engines. Federal-Mogul Burscheid GmbH, formerly Goetze AG, is making an important contribution through the process of optimisation and the development of new oil ring systems. The necessary knowledge of ring performance is derived from tests in the company’s engine test laboratory.
