Abstract
Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is the most common inflammatory ulcerative condition of the oral mucosa. It is characterized by multiple recurrent small, round ulcers with circumscribed margins, erythematous halos, and yellow or gray floors typically presenting first in childhood or adolescence. To date, the treatment remains empirical and nonspecific. The main goals of therapy are to minimize pain and functional disabilities as well as to decrease inflammatory reactions and frequency of recurrences.
