Abstract
The aim of this paper is to analyze the fear of high society in Imperial age within the political system as a consequence of the senators' proximity to the Princeps. Aristocratics' fear could be generated either by the awe of the Princeps' power or by the threat represented by the slaves living in the domus. Representation of aristocrats' fear of the King's power was sometimes used for political outcomes as in case of trials for the so called lese-majeste. Even though the number of cases which determined fear was not conspicuous, public structures, practices and paradoxes in the principate produced hazardous situations.
