Abstract
PREVIEWLife is a high-risk proposition, and few people escape its traumatic events, whether they be floods, violence, fire, or war. And once the acute trauma subsides, many people are left with psychological consequences known as posttraumatic stress disorder. Primary care physicians often must help unscramble the array of symptoms triggered by such stressful events. In this article, Drs Peebles-Kleiger and Zerbe explain symptoms and present options for helping patients move through these tragic situations.
