Abstract

This chapter looks at offences relating to the security of airports and aircraft which can be found in the Aviation Security Act 1982 and the Air Navigation Order 2016. It mentions the Aviation and Maritime Security Act 1990, which is concerned with the security of aviation, ships, and harbours and Civil Aviation Act 1982 that sets forth provisions on the offence of trespass on certain aerodromes. It also reviews offences that apply at seaports in relation to ships. The chapter discusses the application of general English criminal law to acts done on aircraft in flight outside the UK. It details how the UK criminal law can apply in the circumstances set out in section 92 of the Civil Aviation Act 1982, such as acts that happen outside the UK on board a British-controlled aircraft or certain foreign aircraft.
