Abstract

A fluorescent chemosensor consisting of a ZnII–cyclen complex bearing two diagonal pyrenes (see picture) has been developed that has a high affinity for thymidine nucleotides, and exhibits a much greater enhancement in pyrene excimer emission for thymidine triphosphate, -diphosphate and -monophosphate than for the other DNA bases and a variety of nucleotides.
