Abstract

Multiple-input multiple-output systems have created quite a stir in recent wireless communications research due to its ability to increase system capacity as well as improve performance. In this paper we propose orthogonal frequency division multiplexing-continuous phase modulation (OFDM-CPM) for MIMO channels. The MIMO channels are achieved through the use of complex orthogonal space-time block codes. Algorithms for optimum as well as easy to implement suboptimum detection and structure of the detector are derived for the detection of OFDM-CPM signals in the MIMO framework. Performances of both optimum and suboptimum detectors are given in terms of the various system and modulation parameters. Computer simulations over multi-path fading channels show that the proposed OFDM-CPM in MIMO scenario offers considerable improvement relative to conventional OFDM-MIMO systems that use PSK/QPSK mappings and identical space-time coding
