Abstract

Mehta in commemorating the one hundredth anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. The concert, open to the general public and broadcast live, was both significant and unique, in keeping with the spirit of the Lady. The featured soloists, all from different parts of the world, were naturalized citizens of the United States. Soprano Leona Mitchell chose for the occasion the aria from Giacomo Puccini's opera Madama Butterfly: Un bel di vedremo (One fine day, we'll see):
