Abstract

Eva Žáčková has fond memories of the time she spent with her father while he worked as a researcher at the local astronomical observatory in their hometown of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic. She was fascinated by the planetarium, the huge telescopes, Foucault's pendulum, and the historical wooden globes and solar system models her father showed visitors to explain Earth's rotation or to tease them with space-time puzzles. "I loved to be there with him, admiring his knowledge and dreaming about going for a space trip one day," she says.
