Of Casual and Seriousness

Abstract

Casual is an attribute that denotes not permanent or regular rather it is accidental or random. It means happening by chance, not planned rather incidental e.g., a casual encounter, a casual meeting, a casual visit etc. It is made or done without much care or thought viz., a casual remark, a casual invitation. Thus, the term casual is widely used. In derogatory sense it signifies irresponsibility showing too little concern and interest as well. For example, the company’s casual attitude to office security invites danger. It stands for not careful or thorough i.e., not serious eg., a casual inspection, a casual glance at a book, a casual observer. In case of clothes, a casual short-sleeved shirt is an example of casual wear which is simply an informal dress. Similarly, in the market shoes are displayed with the message :a pair of man’s casuals. Shoes, clothes, etc. designed for informal occasions do not obey dress conduct.Thus, casual wear means relaxation. It disobeys or rebels against the so-called conduct. Here, men and women enjoys free style which differs from so-called smart wear. Seriousness implies absorption in deep thought or involvement in something really important as distinguished from something frivolous or merely amusing. For example; he takes a serious interest in the theater. It requires careful consideration or thought involving difficulty, effort or considered action.A serious person takes the life as a challenge. He is professional. He knows the real life problem and can tackle any situation with confidence. An amateur is very casual. In crisis period he cannot show expertise as shown by the serious person. That’s why serious persons are cared and valued much.
