Abstract

Variations in the anatomy of oesophageal atresia with distal tracheo-oesophageal fistula are multitudinous [1]. We report a unique case of a patient with an unusually long proximal oesophagus and a tracheo-oesophageal fistula arising from the mid-trachea, running within the wall of the upper oesophageal segment, and communicating with the lower oesophageal segment below a septum. The intramural part of the fistula was dissected in the submucosal plane and the septum between the oesophageal segments excised.
