Abstract
The article is an attempt at the analysis of the evolution of the insurance scheme to provide old-age protection for peasants in 1945–89. In addition to the literature on the subject, the research was based on archival materials mainly from the fonds of the Central Committee of the Polish United Workers’ Party kept in the Central Archives of Modern Records, the files of the Office of Letters of the Polish Radio and Television (preserved in the Documentation and Programme Collections Centre of the Polish Television SA) and, to a lesser extent, court documents found in the State Archives in Siedlce. The subject of the research was the institution of life annuity and the evolution of the social insurance system for farmers, especially the changes in legal regulations made from the 1960s to the 1980s.
