Abstract

The present work is part of the main researchnamed “For the right to adequate housing: mappinginformal urban settlements in Belo HorizonteCity and its Metropolitan Area (Brazil)” developedon the scope of the “City and Otherness Program”in partnership with the “Citizenship Pole Program”- both carried out in the Law School at Federal Universityof Minas Gerais. This paper aims to presentto what extent and how the urban occupation of theMetropolitan Area of Belo Horizonte contribute tothe spatial reconstruction of the city and foster theemergence of citizenship and the reduction of inequalities.In the face of a city model based uponcommercialization and privatization of space, urbanoccupations emerge as an instrument of accessto adequate housing and urban justice. Consideringthese issues, it will be presented the analysis of socialcartography developed in the occupation CamiloTorres, located in Belo Horizonte-MG.
