Abstract

Introduction: There are a number of brainstem-generated movement disorders. Among these, some peculiar brainstem “oscillator” or pacemaker-generated rhythmic disorders exist. A rare, but classical brainstem movement disorder is myorrhythmia or oculo-facio-skeletal myorrhythmia (OFSM). We present an unusual case of myorrhythmia following brainstem hemorrhage. Case Report: A 56-year-old man presented with almost complete ophthalmoplegia and mild quadriparesis. CT brain showed a left ponto-mesencephalic hemorrhage. Upon follow-up, the patient was diagnosed with OFSM. Discussion: We review the various rhythmic brainstem-generated movement disorders with an emphasis on the possible regions where OFSM can arise.
