Abstract

Intravenous infusion of prostaglandin E1(PGE,) (0.79μg/7.9μI/min) increased intraocular pressure and lowered mean femoral arterial blood pressure in rabbits. These two effects occurred within 20 seconds after the onset of infusion and continued during the ten-minute infusion period. No significant change in outflow facility was found during the PGE,infusion. Topical pretreatment with epinephrine solution (0.5%, 1%, and 2%) antagonized the ocular hypertension produced by intravenous infusion of PGE1.
