Abstract

SUMMARY The history of vitamin A deficiency in cattle, and its effect on the eye, is traced and the relevant literature reviewed. The ocular changes have been studied in experimental calves (monozygous twins) and in field cases of vitamin A deficiency and are described under the following headings: total blindness, night blindness and dark adaptation, papilloedema and optic atrophy, retinal degeneration, corneal changes, conjunctival smears, aqueous humour and intraocular pressure, exophthalmos, and other eye changes.
