Abstract

Updates to International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) have been implemented for reporting with services provided on and after October 1, 2023. This update includes notable new and revised codes for reporting pediatric conditions, reasons for encounters, and social determinants of health that affect treatment or management. This article provides an overview of the following code changes that may be applicable in pediatric practice: Appendicitis with and without perforation Nontraumatic coma Foreign bodies entering into or through natural orifices Foreign body sensation Medical clearance for placement outside parental care Newborn observation related to home physiologic monitoring Encounter for HIV preexposure prophylaxis Social determinants of health
