Abstract
Caryophyllia (Acanthocyathus) fernandesi n.sp .occuring in the Capanema and Castelo ecofacies of Pirabas formation (Eomiocene), in NE Para state, is described. This new species is characterized by strong costae and large costal spines, best developed on costae along the longer calicular axis.
