Abstract

The aim of the work is to present the economic situation of the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund (KRUS) and to evaluate its activities from the perspective of the farmers insured in it from the area of the County of Przasnysz. For that purpose the data gathered by the KRUS and the results of the survey conducted in 2012 covering 82 insured farmers were used. Disappointment with the currently functioning system of agricultural social insurance was declared by as many as 53.7% of the respondents. This is not equivalent to willingness to liquidate that institution. To the contrary, 73.2% of the respondents see the need for existence of a separate insurance system highlighting at the same time the necessity for upgrading it (45.1%). The changes should not involve intervention of the State in the financial aspects of the KRUS but the mechanisms of computing the contributions or early retirement pensions for farmers. On numerous occasions the respondents presented arguments concerning inadequacy of the level of contributions paid to the level of benefits received.
