Abstract
The National Science Foundation has revised engineering planning and budgeting for the Ocean Margin Drilling Program (OMD). The figure shows the schedules. Right now, the request for proposals, which is an extensive and thorough list of specifications, restrictions, etc., is being prepared, to be followed by contract award and the ensuing design and modifications for the Glomar Explorer (see EOS, 67(11), March 11, 1980). What are now deleted from this schedule are two features of great importance to the ocean science community. One is continuation of Glomar Explorer operations; the other being riserless drilling operations for Glomar Explorer prior to completion of construction of the marine riser.
