Abstract
AN adult specimen of the Little Egret (Ardea garzetta, Linn.) was shot at the end of last month, on the mud-flats below Top-sham, a town on the Exe, four miles below Exeter, and has unfortunately fallen into private hands. This is the first known occurrence of this beautiful bird on the Exe, but two or three specimens were recorded from the Dart and Tamar more than fifty years ago. The last specimen obtained in South Devon was killed in April 1851.
