Abstract

The change in the optical plasma resonance absorption due to exposure to air containing H 2S has been investigated for Ag island films prepared by vacuum deposition. The changes in the absorption peak and the half width were found to be much larger than those predicted by the Ag 2S coating model. This disagreement is attributed to the enhancement of electron scattering due to the occurrence of sulphurization at lattice defects in the particles.
