Abstract
This article gives an historical perspective of the development of OT education in Portugal. It also describes the present situation and the major challenges that are occurring in OT education. Since the first graduate in OT in Portugal (1960) with a diploma, we have come a long way. Today OT course is at a licenciatura degree level which allows professionals to continue their studies at a higher level (Master's and PhD). However, there are yet no courses at Master's and PhD degrees levels in OT, leaving therapists to continue post graduation in other areas such as Public Health, Psychology, Neuroscience and Management.
