Abstract

Imagine you're at a dinner party. Suddenly, the distinguished-looking stranger sitting to your left, grabs your elbow and whispers that the host is a crook and a cad—and, what's more, the other guests have maliciously conspired to keep his offences secret. You're the only one he can trust, he says, commanding your elbow and ear for the next several hours. That is the feeling one gets reading Cancer-Gate: How to Win the Losing Cancer War, by Samuel S Epstein. It takes Epstein fewer than a dozen paragraphs to indict the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society (ACS), and even the journal Science, for crimes that have led to the deaths of countless innocent people.
