Abstract
The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) provides advice about the clinical and cost-effectiveness of newly licensed medicines to the National Health Service (NHS) in Scotland, and since 2005, SMC has also provided early intelligence on medicines still in development through publication of “Forward Look” reports. Forward Look predictions are helpful in supporting resource planning by NHS Boards, but there are challenges in accurately estimating the uptake of a medicine that is still in development.
