Abstract

Introduction: Prevalence of NAFLD is rapidly rising worldwide, as is the metabolic syndrome. It is known that the occurrence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) increases the chances of developing steatohepatitis (NASH). The current gold standard to assess the presence of NASH is with liver biopsy, but the limitations associated with this method suggests the need of noninvasive tests. The aim of this study was to use a machine learning approach to determine a panel of circulating markers associated to the presence of NASH vs NAFL in diabetic and non-diabetic subjects.
