Abstract

The complexes [PtCl 2(Py 2,4,6)(solvent)] are formed and isolated upon photolysis of [PtCl 2(C 2H 4)(Py 2,4,6)] in oxygen-donor solvents (acetone, ethyl ether, ethyl and methyl acetate, tetrahydrofuran). At room temperature these compounds lose the oxygen-donor ligand to give the chloro-bridged diplatinum complexes [ {PtCl 2(Py 2,4,6)} 2]. A low temperature 1H NMR study shows that this compound exists as cis- and trans-isomers in solution. Irradiation of trans-[ {Pt(μ-Cl)Cl(Py 2,4,6)} 2] in CHCl 3 or CH 2Cl 2 leads to the cis-isomer, which is isolated in good yield.
